Area profile: Macclesfield, Echunga
In a region as big and vibrant as the Adelaide Hills, there are a lot of pockets beyond Mount Barker. Unless you grew up in the Hills, many of these towns might not be familiar.

Macclesfield
Macclesfield is a smaller (yet growing) town about 13 minutes from Mount Barker. It has a strong community feel, historic buildings and a short main street. ‘Maccy’ is one of those rare towns that still feels untouched by time.
As of May 2026, Macclesfield’s median house price is $1,047,667 – up 30.1% in the past year. The population of the town is around 2,077.

Echunga
10 mins from Macclesfield is another small but mighty town, Echunga. What once was an area for gold fossicking is now a lovely town surrounded by farmland. Echunga (and Macclesfield) are the types of towns where you can ride horses and run trails.
As of May 2026, Echunga’s median house price is $1,525,000, with a whopping 68.5% annual growth. The population sits at about 1,200.
