Murray Bridge makes top 100 regional suburbs list

The government has big plans for Murray Bridge. With $100 million in planned investments across public transport, health, economy and culture, it’s a region on the rise.

According to Murray Bridge News, the town will reach 35,000 residents in 15 years. Murray Bridge’s population is currently estimated at 23,539. Alongside Mount Barker’s population forecasts (from 45,000 to 58,000 in 10 years), the expansion of these towns will radically transform the identity, investment and infrastructure in our region.

While Mount Barker’s median house price has eclipsed $800K, Murray Bridge is hovering around $575K. Murray Bridge is 30 minutes from Mount Barker and for families who prefer the river over the beach, it could be a good option.

A regional real estate boom

New data was released this month that detailed 100 top regional towns that are set to outperform the wider market in the years ahead. Murray Bridge was one of only two SA suburbs in the Regional Movers Index.

It highlighted how people are increasingly relocating further afield in search of affordable homes. As an agricultural and manufacturing hub in South Australia, Murray Bridge has emerging opportunities as well as affordable property.

Labor’s plan for Murray Bridge includes a new maternity ward, birthing unit, renal unit, police station, technical college, classrooms, emergency services, and public transport. 900 new homes are expected, but as the Murray Bridge News reported, about 1/3 households consisted of one person – but over 80% of local properties are 3-4 bedrooms. More affordable units are needed to meet the needs of current residents, as not to price out long-term locals.

The greater Adelaide Hills region

Mount Barker has been coined as South Australia’s second city, which means Murray Bridge and the greater Murraylands will be more connected to services and entertainment in the future. With a convenient highway connection to the major regional centre, Murray Bridge is destined to benefit from the Hills’ big ambitions.

And we’re seeing it play out right here at Nitschke’s Mount Barker HQ. If you’re looking to buy a house in the Adelaide Hills, consider expanding your radius to our neighbouring regions.
