Birdwood
Birdwood is one of the most historic towns in the Adelaide Hills with a German heritage, like Hahndorf. It’s home to the National Motor Museum, putting it on the map for car enthusiasts and history buffs.
Birdwood is uniquely located with Mount Barker and the Barossa Valley 30 minutes on either side. It’s about 45-minutes from the city, making it more of a country feel than other parts of the Hills.
As of March 2026, Birdwood’s median house price is $739,000 – one of the more affordable suburbs in the Adelaide Hills right now. Birdwood’s estimated population is 1,376.

Gumeracha
10 minutes away from Birdwood, down Torrens Valley Road towards the city, you’ll find Gumeracha – famous for its big rocking horse. If you grew up in the Hills, you probably climbed it as a kid.
Gumeracha is a small town, surrounded by vineyards, farmland, and rolling hills. Its population is around 847 and as of March 2026, the median house price is $845,000 – which is substantially higher than its Birdwood neighbour.
