The Adelaide Hills Council 2025 Strategic Priorities
In April 2025, the Adelaide Hills Council released a list of strategic priorities for the region over the next 12 months.
From sport to transport, pedestrian to precinct redevelopments, it’s an exciting time to be here in the Hills.
New recommendations have come off the back of the Mount Barker and Adelaide Hills Transport Study, including:
- On-demand public transport bus services in Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater (similar to the service currently available in Mount Barker).
- Investments in townships across the region such as Woodside, Stirling, Lenswood, Lobethal, and Mount Torrens. For example, part of Stirling’s $2 million masterplan will go towards creating a public event space.
- Extending pedestrian and cycling access in regions across the Hills. E.g. adding a north-bound bike lane along tight S-bends on the Stirling-Aldgate stretch of Mount Barker Road, and a pedestrian bridge over the Onkaparinga River (in Verdun/Hahndorf).
- Expanding the Fabrik Arts + Heritage in Lobethal as a destination for culture, tourism and educational experiences.
- New changeroom facilities to encourage the growth of women and girls in field sports.
Other major developments in the works include the new Mount Barker Hospital, Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Aston Hills Shopping Centre, Hahndorf Main Street upgrade, and the Mount Barker-Verdun Interchange Upgrade.
Tell us: What would you like to see here in the Hills?
We’ve got a major development of our own coming soon, too. *Barkervale* is Mount Barker’s most anticipated land transformation to come, brought to market by Nitschke.
Barkervale is a distinct piece of bushland selected to give you a balance of natural beauty and proximity to town services. Unlike other developments that are built beyond Mount Barker’s main radius, Barkervale’s creek-lined walking trails connect to the heart of town – bringing to life its nature-town connection.
Barkervale’s masterplan is integrated in and around nature, giving you old and new Mount Barker in one prime location.
