Adelaide Hills

Area profile: Hahndorf, Verdun, Mylor

In the Adelaide Hills, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to different towns. From farm-style cottages to modern allotments, each suburb has its own personality (of real estate and vibe). We explored Mount Barker, Littlehampton and Nairne, then Woodside, Lobethal and Balhannah/Oakbank. Next, we’re ‘visiting’ Hahndorf, Verdun and Mylor.

Get ready for a lot of charm.

Hahndorf

Hahndorf’s is one of the most unique and iconic towns in the Adelaide Hills. It’s our little version of Europe, with German charm and influence. Conveniently located 10 minutes from Mount Barker and five minutes to the freeway, you can get to Glen Osmond in less than 20.

Hahndorf’s main street is a tourist attraction (for locals and visitors). There are pubs, nice restaurants, boutiques, homewares, cheese shops, wineries, and distilleries.

As of December 2025, Hahndorf’s median house price is $1.2 million – up over 12% in the past year. It’s seen record growth, from the $600,000s to $1.2 million in five years.

Hahndorf’s population is sitting at 43,619.

Must visits:

  • The Haus
  • Hahndorf Inn
  • The Lane
  • Beerenberg Farm
  • Sidewood Estate
  • Udder Delights
  • The FruChocs Shop

Verdun and Mylor

It’s always a good move to look on the perimeter of the popular towns, to see what real estate opportunities are available. Verdun and Mylor, while more residential and less of a dedicated town, are in close proximity to Hahndorf. Verdun is five minutes away and Mylor is 10 minutes.

If you’re looking for more space, these suburbs will put you close to Hahndorf and give you the best of both worlds – proximity, without the price tag. Mylor’s last recorded population count was 1,067 and Verdun’s was included in the Balhannah, Oakbank catchment of 2,957.

It’s similar to how Littlehampton and Nairne have opened up, due to their proximity to Mount Barker. With our region’s ambitious growth goals, we’re expecting to see more of these ‘pass through’ towns become more established with attractions.
