Adelaide Hills

Fun family adventures to take in the Fleurieu Peninsula.

The Fleurieu Peninsula is the most visited region in South Australia, and it’s less than an hour from your Adelaide Hills property. Whether you’re new to the area or are simply looking for Fleurieu Peninsula activities to do as a family, you’ll have plenty of ideas to choose from.

Your Adelaide Hills property to the Fleurieu – in less than an hour

A winery for you, a playground for the kids

We weren’t kidding about the Fleurieu being a hit for the whole family. Gemtree Wines is the perfect example. It’s a family-centric cellar door, so you can enjoy a glass of local wine, while the kids play, in the purpose-built area…. with all-encompassing vineyard views (and fresh sea air).

A different type of Fleurieu Peninsula fishing experience

For the water babies of the family, head down to Oceanic Victor, where you can swim with southern bluefin tuna. But make sure you get a good night’s sleep. These fish are the fastest in the ocean. If Mum isn’t too fond of this, there’s always the undersea observatory. She’ll marvel at some of Australia’s marine life, without getting her hair wet.

Trains and boats, all in the one day

At the risk of going all post-cardy, no family adventures around the Fleurieu Peninsula would be complete without travelling on the Cockle Train. It operates along the region’s oldest steel railway to Victor Harbor, often hugging the coastline. If you have young boys, they’ll feel like they stepped into a real-life Thomas the Tank Engine episode.

Hike, in conversation parks

When foreigners think of Australia, they’ll conjure up images like those you’ll experience in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Gorgeous untouched beaches, kangaroos, and nature like you have never seen. There’s dozens of trails in Deep Creek Conservation Park. The Goondooloo Ridge Walk is a great hike to complete as a family. Pack a picnic, a cheeky bottle of wine, and explore your ‘backyard.’

Farm stays & wildlife parks

If your little ones are drawn to animals, take them to Urimbirra Wildlife Park or Goolwa Animal Farm. Children can interact with animals they don’t usually see, like koalas, kangaroos, and even snakes. For a deeper, educational experience, visit Narnu Farm. Set aside a weekend and book in at the farm, as a family.

There’s truly something for every family and family member in the Fleurieu Peninsula. Located less than an hour from your Adelaide Hills property, you can enjoy a beach day whenever you please.
